It became famous in the 1950’s and ‘60s by the Hollywood jet set crowd, but Acapulco, Mexico remains a fabulous destination to this day.
Glitzy nightclubs, fine dining, and luxurious shopping all make this Pacific Ocean coastal town a premiere holiday spot. With several beaches all within the tourist district, it’s no wonder that families, couples, and girlfriends all choose Acapulco year after year.
One of the most famous attractions in Acapulco is the cliff diving performance at La Quebrada. Many times throughout the day, several professionals scale the cliffs and dive into the ocean below. This performance has been organized since 1934 and was popularized in the Elvis Presley film Fun in Acapulco. Book dinner reservations at the clifftop restaurant for an all-inclusive dinner and sunset show that you’ll remember for years to come. If you come during the day, make sure to bring plenty of water- with little to no shade, it gets extremely hot on top of the hill.
When it’s time to relax, hit one of Acapulco’s many accessible beaches. A favorite amongst tourists is Punta Diamante, which rests along a 25km peninsula. With the Pacific Ocean on one side and a beautiful lagoon on the other, many vacationers go out of their way to stick their toes in Punta Diamante’s fine, dark blonde sand. A wildlife preserve nearby is a wonderful family-friendly attraction, where tourists can witness sea turtle hatchlings on the beach.
The grandiose Playa La Costera lines the coast of Acapulco’s main tourist district. Wide and covered with fine white sand, Playa La Costera is perhaps the most popular beach in Acapulco. The benefit of staying on La Costera is access to the city’s best amenities. Book a room at the Mar Azul Hotel to have the beach, bars, restaurants, and nightclubs all at your fingertips. You can even watch the breathtaking sunsets right out of your window!
La Costera is also the name of the main street in Acapulco, where local restaurants, small markets, and lively nightlife take place. It’s a favorite activity for tourists to walk the palm tree-lined strip, which feels like an old Hollywood throwback. It’s advised that vacationers not take up driving the strip, as Acapulco’s roads are notoriously hard to navigate. Just enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells!
The cuisine in Acapulco is perfect for those who wish to experience fine dining at affordable prices. The most highly rated eatery is Tony’s Asian Bistro, where inspiring ocean views mix with delicious food and a nightclub ambiance. Built into the mountainside rests Zibu, a Thai-Mexican-Japanese fusion restaurant. The romantic atmosphere, sprawling vistas, and perfect service make Zibu a foodie hotspot in Acapulco.
If you’re looking for an iconic, Hollywood-inspired vacation, Acapulco is the destination for you. The sandy beaches, glimmering water, and lively activities make this coastal town and enviable holiday spot. Don’t miss out this summer!
