Scottsdale, Arizona is a wonderful place to find new adventures around every corner.
A city known for its’ warmth and passion, a fall vacation to Arizona will definitely warm you up as the days turn cooler.
An easy drive from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, this luxurious city offers more than the posh spas, immaculate golf courses and high-end shops that it has become known for. Certainly, the warm, dry desert air is the perfect antidote for the colder weather experienced further north. So a little sun bathing by the pool or time spent at one of the many world-renowned spas should be on the itinerary while in Arizona. But with a community rich in art and design, come to Scottsdale to explore beyond pool deck. One of the best golf courses in the planet also can be found here in this beautiful paradise.
The vibrant art and design culture in Scottsdale is experienced best with a visit to Taliesin West, the former Arizona residence and school centre of famed America architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. The low lying buildings of the compound still remain with much of the original Prairie style furniture, sculptures and stain glass windows left to admire. Taliesin West remains today a centre of teaching the principles of organic architecture taught by Wright back in the day, with students on property year round. The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust operates a wonderful guided tour of the grounds where you can explore many rooms and buildings in the compound and stroll past the working studios with architects buried in their studies.
As the weekend approaches, downtown Scottsdale comes alive with art, food and more. Thursdays and Sundays on East Stetson Drive on the banks of the Scottsdale Waterfront, find time to explore the Artisan Markets featuring wonderful local shopping, works of art, live music and so much more. If you are looking to take home a few interesting local souvenirs; handcrafted art pieces, pottery and unique clothing items are just some of the options to choose from. With a focus on shop local, Artisan Markets strives to choose vendors who create items solely on their own and are produced right in Scottsdale so shoppers can feel confident that what they are purchasing is home grown. As the afternoon turns to evening and the twinkle lights light up the riverbank, stay to enjoy the live music by local musicians at one of the riverside stages.
Scottsdale and the surrounding areas are home to some pretty amazing museums and art galleries, all featuring local art whether modern or historical. A visit to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art is perfect for those interested in contemporary and cutting edge art and design. For a more historical look at some local artists, spend some time at the Heard Museum with a collection of pieces focusing on the culture of the Southwest’s American Indians. Are fashion design and international art of interest? In nearby Phoenix, explore the wonderful exhibitions at the Phoenix Art Museum that features wonderful shows from across the globe.
