Planning a visit to the stunning interior of British Columbia, Canada and a stay at the Lake Okanagan Resort?

Lake Okanagan is one of the beautiful gems found on the west coast of Canada with charming communities found all around the waters edge. A short flight to Kelowna from Vancouver International Airport or a scenic five to six hour drive, this is the heart of Canadian wine country. Kelowna, being the largest city on the banks of Lake Okanagan, is the centre of this charming part of the province. With wonderful restaurants, outstanding new world wines to taste and wineries to visit, this is a perfect, leisurely fall getaway. A perfect long weekend spent in the Okanagan will leave you relaxed and charmed after days spent taking in the wonderful lakeside scenery.

Westside wineries

While the whole Okanagan area has many wonderful wineries to visit, it would take days and weeks to visit all the producers from the southern most establishments to wineries right around the Kelowna area. When staying on the west side of Lake Okanagan, plan a visit to iconic Mission Hill. With an impressive building, perched high on a hill overlooking the lake, Mission Hill has long been producing some wonderful wines. Try everything from the Chardonnay to the Ice Wine and choose your favorite. Not far from Mission Hill, stop in a Quail’s Gate winery for a tasting in their newly remodeled tasting room. The restaurant and wine bar, Old Vines, is one of the best in the area serving delicious food for lunch and dinner.

Hike it off

In fall, one of the best ways to enjoy the crisp sunny days is by exploring nature on foot. From Lake Okanagan Resort, try one of many interpretive trails weaving through 300 acres of protected mountainside parkland. Trails that lead you up hill from the lake will offer amazing views of the valley and lake below, the hills alive with the bright colours of the fall. While hiking, learn a few tidbits about the history of trade goods in Canada. The resort has worked closely with the Parks Board to put together an interpretive trail system that incorporates part of the historic Northwest Trading Company Fur Brigade Trail, an integral part of economic growth in Canada years ago.

Spa time

The resort houses one of the best spas in the area, so be sure to book ahead to guarantee some relaxation time. The Beyond Wrapture Spa, a Moroccan themed day spa, features exotic treatments like hot tub soaks complete with authentic Moroccan mint tea, as well as a great variety of massages and other body treatments. Or try a Vinotherapy treatment, a first in Canada grape-based treatment focusing on the antioxidants found in grapes. From the Grape Pip scrub, Honey Wine Body Wrap or deep massage using grape seed oil; experience for yourself the amazing healing properties of grapes, beyond a glass of wine. Relax and unwind in the calming atmosphere of the spa, all the while overlooking the deep blue of Lake Okanagan.
