Do you need a reason to go on vacation to Thailand?
Pai is a region in Northern Thailand, where you can experience wonderful natural activities. From this lovely little town you can visit the Pai Canyon, the Pai Memorial Bridge, a wonderful temple, enjoy swimming in hot springs and waterfalls, interaction with elephants and go for a day trip to the Tham Lod cave. While holidaying in Thailand it is always possible to visit other regions, and Pai has its own airport now so this is far more accessible. From November to early Spring is the absolute best time to visit, so what are you waiting for…
A wonderful place just 8km from Pai Town, where you can go hiking through the canyon´s red clay dirt, climbing to the top of the plateaus for outstanding views of the surrounding countryside. The air is clear here, due to the wonderful pine trees that surround it. You are free from the noise of the compact town with its motorbikes and music, it is a peaceful place to relax and make your own adventures.
There are many hot springs set out all over this region, so you would be very unlucky if you didn’t find any. After a morning hiking at the Pai Canyon, soaking in a warm bath would be great, well that is exactly what the hot springs are like. The water and its nutrients are so good for the skin and also for ailments such as arthritis or aches and pains in the joints or the muscles. A wonderful part of your Thailand vacation.
Pam Bok Waterfall
On route from the the Pai Canyon you will come across the Pam Bok Waterfall, which is a real treat. There are many waterfalls around the region so don´t be too worried of you don´t find this one. It is however one of the biggest, and it´s flow is always good and the large pool below makes for an excellent natural swimming pool. Just sitting looking at the waterfall, brings a quietness to your mind and body, that is unexplainable other than to say, it is a natural wonder that feeds your soul.
This little town has everything that you could want, it has shops and eateries and also plenty of places to hire a motorbike, for you to see the many attractions of natural beauty that are on offer. It is also possible to hire taxis for the day, your taxi driver becomes your guide for the day too. In the evening it comes alive with music, dance and lots of alcohol flowing. If this is not your idea of a good night out, then book yourself into one of the many restaurants, where the ambience is a lot more chilled out.
There are many ways that you can interact with these wonderful animals, there are endless businesses advertising that they offer swimming with them, riding on them among other activities. Please make your choice on recommendations, and with the care of these animals in mind. Showering the elephant is a nice choice, as they enjoy soaking in the water and having the water showered over them, you can get up close to them in their own environment. The Tham Lod Cave This is a wonderful day trip from Pai, it is a cave in a rock, out in the water. You are seated on wooden flat boats and pulled into the cave, where lights are lit to show you the internal part of the cave, then you disembark and climb up wooden ladders to the body of the cave, where you can see all the bats, if you come at the right time of the day, the swallows (birds), change places with the bats as they leave the cave, it is an impressive sight. It is wonderful to see nature up close and the respect that the locals have for them. It is also a wonderful environment to be in and probably an experience that you have never had before.
Pai Memorial Bridge
A beautiful and historical bridge, with much history in world war II, rebuilt and painted an enticing blue. It is the ideal location for a photograph and to learn about that time in history. You realise how close Pai is to Burma, the site of where the troops were stationed, my Grandad was one of them.
Wat Phra That Mae Yen Temple
Wow, is the best word to describe this spiritual haven in this wonderful region of Thailand. It is a colourfully painted temple, with ornate religious statues and coloured ribbons, and dragons placed around it, you can walk inside to the room filled with endless riches of a religious nature. You can sit, and you can climb to the top, where the view captures your heart. This is a special temple, where the openness of the welcome as you enter its golden doorway takes your breath away, it is a place that you want to be in for many hours, contemplating.
Pai is yet another fantastic place to visit in the wonderful Thailand.
