Want an activity holiday or a rest in a hot destination?
Hurghada in Egypt offers outstanding opportunities to enjoy the beauty and the wonder of the Red Sea. The fantastic dive spots off the beaches here, offer a super selection of coral reefs, great sea-life and warm water. The beaches are so great, you can lie back and relax or take to the water with the many fun activities around, the inflatable banana is a favourite. In the resorts here in Hurghada you will find excellent facilities, including great swimming pools with water slides and a variety of spa and salon sessions to book.
You can also enjoy land activities, a popular excursion is the many Jeep tours on offer, that take you out onto the vast desert landscape for an exhilarating ride around. There are many camels parked, all adorned with colourful ribbons, blankets and beads, waiting to get their next passenger. It is a different experience, but one that most people find themselves just getting used to it, when it is time to disembark – maybe have two goes?
What perhaps is little known about Egypt, and in particular Hurghada, is that there are two golf courses in the area. The Cascades of Soma Bay is a beautiful course with views out to the Red Sea and is a challenging course as it is termed a links course. The other course is in the El Gouna part of Hurghada, the Steigenberger Golf Resort – which has excellent facilities and a great 72 hole course to enjoy.
If you feel pulled towards the town then the old part of town is the place to go, El Dahar – there you will find more familiar places to eat, such as fast food chains but you will also find many fish restaurants. It is a little hustle and bustle in the calm of the beach resorts. There are many spice bazaars here too, offering many different coloured ground herbs and spices for you to purchase, sold from baskets, stacked one on top of the other, six foot high, in stalls. It is a great place to soak up the North African side to Egypt, the Moroccan feel.
When one thinks of Egypt, we usually think of the Pyramids or the Valley of the Kings, Hurghada is not near to Cairo or Luxor but it is very normal practice to go on organised tours to these parts of Egypt, to see the famous landmarks and soak up the ancient history of this country. You can fly to Cairo and then be driven around in an air-conditioned coach, always being given time to see the necessary sights. It is a great idea if you really want to enjoy this part of Egypt.
However, Hurghada is a fantastic vacation destination for some sun, sand and swimming – golf, diving and shopping so perhaps you won´t have the time to visit the other parts on this trip, there is always the next time.
