If you want to see and do, then Kanchanaburi is for you…
Kanchanaburi, Thailand is a super place for a vacation, one that you will want to have plenty of time to fully enjoy, all that is on offer here. The region of Kanchanaburi is perhaps most known for its history, being that it is home to the Bridge over the River Kwai – the famous site of a World War Two battle, the bridge having been built by Prisoner’s of War and then partly destroyed – the film with the same name gives an authentic dramatisation of what took place. The railway here, where the trains still travel is known as Death Railway to Burma because of the many souls who lost their lives here at this time in history. It is not forgotten and there are many museums and memorial locations to visit.
If you are looking for less history and more pleasure then head straight towards the River Kwai Valleys – you can go on organised day trips which take your to the Hellfire Pass and then the Erawan Falls, this is a waterfall that is in fact seven waterfalls layered one on top of the other. You can enjoy walking in this area and swimming in the wonderful pools below the falls, it is a fantastic day out and probably one that you will want to repeat.
If you are travelling to the Erawan Falls then you can stop off at the Taweechai Elephant Camp, this is a fantastic animal welfare centre, where many wonderful elephants are housed and kept in perfect conditions – you are encouraged to interact with the elephants and enjoy their pleasures, such as showering and playing. In the elephant camp you will also be able to see the sacred bones of an elephant that is said to have lived until he was one hundred years old, it is a symbol of the longevity of these wonderful animals.
There are many hiking and walking opportunities within the River Kwai Valleys and the various Natural Parks, so if this is your interest then you will not be disappointed. Perhaps you prefer walking around a golf course? This destination will also satisfy the golfer in you as there is a fantastic golf course in the area, named River Kwai Golf & Country Club. It is an 18 hole course with stunning views across the valley and is positioned beautifully within the mountains. Water features are within the course to enhance its beauty and to encourage bird life. It is a blend of 3,4 and 5 par holes, a wonderful place to spend a day. The clubhouse has excellent, fresh buffet style lunching options, all freshly prepared – a good end, to a round of golf.
You can see that there is so much to do here apart from relaxing at your wonderful home vacation property, and this is only part of the story. The rich source of qualified Thai massage therapists and the wonderful food, the people here love to share with you, are also here to enjoy.
