SummerStage Festival

One of the best things about New York City is the access to numerous free concerts all summer long. The best of the best? The SummerStage Festival. Located at parks throughout the city, the SummerStage Festival is not only free, but attracts big-name performers every year. This years acts include Public Enemy and the Indigo Girls. Don’t miss the benefit shows sprinkled throughout the summer that cost upwards of $35, including bands such as Cage the Elephant, Ryan Adams, and Matt Nathanson.

Flea Market Hopping

New York City undoubtedly has some of the best flea markets in the world. This summer, spend a Saturday hopping from one to another as you explore the eclectic array of items up for grabs. Brooklyn Flea at Fort Greene is incredibly popular for all-around good finds, while markets like Rock N’ Shop in Bushwick are tailored for music lovers. A wonderful evening activity is perusing the stalls at the Queens International Night Market for free performances, delicious food, and over 100 vendors.

Rooftop Films

For the perfect date night activity, hit up one of the many venues around the city to catch a Rooftop Film. With so many genres of film and screening locations to choose from, the choice is quite simple! There’s nothing more romantic than catching a film with a glimmering view of downtown in the background, and the best part? Often times the venus will have easy-going after parties post-film. Cheap beer or an open bar is sometimes included!

Farmers’ Markets

Since there are dozens of farmers’ markets to choose from in New York City, it’s super easy to find the best and closest one to your accommodations. The Union Square Greenmarket is one of the most popular due to it’s accessibility, but the New York Botanical Garden Greenmarket is the perfect choice for families. Spend the day walking the stalls, trying local treats, and eyeing the luscious garden views. Tip: pick up a few picnic essentials (cured meats, cheese, bread) and search the gardens for the ideal lunchtime spot!
