Paris is best known for its romance, art, and classic culture; but it is also one of the most renowned spots in the whole of Europe for fine dining! There are over a whopping seventy Michelin starred eateries in the capital, which can be quite overwhelming- even for those with exceptional culinary passion. So we’ve listed our top five to get you started with your indulgence Parisian dining.
Le Meurice makes the list thanks to its sumptuous Louis XVI décor and grand tiled floor, as well as an exceptional menu of classic excellence. This imposing hotel is something of a Paris icon, and it not only offers panoramic views of the city while you eat, it also promises to wow your taste buds with exquisite culinary offerings from Yannick Alléno’s 3-Michellin starred menu- which is worth every cent.
Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée
This three-Michelin starred restaurant is all about the glamour, with a ceiling virtually sagging decadently under the shimmering weight of 10,000 crystals. Mains are famed for their variety and adventurous flair, with items such as Lobster in Apple and spiced wine sauce, or Chinese inspired dishes, prominent on the menu. Be sure to sample the Iranian caviar and the exclusive Monte Carlo rum.
At the opposite end of the glamour spectrum we have L’Arpège; a statement of deliberate simplicity. The chrome furnishings and stripped-back interior simplify the fine-dining ambience, focusing on the exquisite food. Though the interior can seem cold, the menu more than makes up for it! The most famous dish is sautéed chicken with roasted vegetables, creamy potatoes, and pan-juices. This rustic French cuisine is accompanied by divine desserts, and more than earns its 3 Michellin stars!
This 2 Michellin starred experience is famed for its impressive social history, which is part of the entire dining experience. Among the previous clientele are names such as Audrey Hepburn and Salvador Dali, and the restaurant even fed Resistance fighters during the war. But the intrigue is shadowed by wonderful cuisine. Christophe Moret (ex-Plaza Athénée) and Claire Heitzler (ex-Ritz) have created a truly decadent menu. At night, the roof even retracts so that this can be enjoyed under the Paris stars!
Hotel le Bristol
The location of this renowned hotel is enough to secure a spot on your must-eat-at list; positioned on the venerable rue du Faubourg St-Honoré near icons like Dolce & Gabbana. The crowd here is dazzling and elite, a die-hard collection of millionaires, socialites and fashionistas. They flock like moths to a glamorous flame, thanks to the 3 Michelin-starred sumptuous menu of Eric Fréchon… and the incredible views of the Eiffel Tower!
