If you go on vacations regularly, you must have heard about renting (if not already rented) rooms or houses directly from homeowners via peer-to-peer vacation rental services such as Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway.
According to a recent omnibus survey conducted by Leger for the AIF, results revealed the following information.
The top three advantages of peer-to-peer vacation services mentioned by vacationers:
- saving money (65%)
- having a kitchen (59%)
- being in control (57%)
- no housekeeping (47%)
- no concierge/front desk (23%)
- not a part of a resort (17%)
Interesting is that the usage of the peer-to-peer vacation services is higher among timeshare owners than non-owners (70% vs. 34% and 69% vs. 11%).
The disadvantages mentioned, however, do not apply to timeshare rentals as they typically include a full set of resort amenities such as formal check-in, concierge service, housekeeping and other valuable perks unavailable at traditional vacation rentals.
